What We’re Most Thankful for This Year

It’s tradition at many Thanksgiving celebrations for each person at the table to say what they’re especially thankful for. In that spirit, we at Road Scholar want to take this opportunity to share the things for which we’re thankful.

We’re an organization built on community, so it should come as no surprise that people are at the top of our list. We’re thankful for those who surround us in our work every day, including:

Road Scholar participants in France

Our Enthusiastic Program Participants

Last year alone, 89,393 Road Scholars learned with us domestically and in 89 countries abroad. Another 1,146 took part in multi-day Adventures Online, and 41,922 participants joined us for online lectures! We’re so thankful that these passionate, lifelong learners have chosen to broaden their horizons with us. We’re thankful, too, for their grace in sharing their stories with us — thoughtful, often moving reflections on the time they’ve spent with us, their families and friends new and old, uncovering the wonders of our world.

Our New Generations of Explorers

Through Grandparent Adventures, our Road Scholar grandmothers and grandfathers are helping to instill a lifelong love of learning. More than 2,500 grandchildren attended programs with us last year! And through our Family Adventures, multiple generations — children, grandchildren, even great-grandchildren — have discovered the joys of exploring the world with the ones they love. We’re thankful we can welcome these new and enthusiastic travelers into the fold.

Our Generous Donors

Thousands of individuals and families support Road Scholar through donations that not only help keep our not-for-profit organization strong, but also enable us to provide grants to caregivers, educators and others who give so much of themselves. To those whose philanthropy sustains us, we owe an extra measure of gratitude.

Our Instructors and Subject-Matter Experts

Road Scholar stands apart as an organization focused on ensuring that every journey is one of learning and discovery. The education at the heart of what we do is provided by an exceptional team of program developers and leaders, instructors and scholars. We’re thankful for the invaluable contribution of their time and talent that makes every Road Scholar travel experience distinctly meaningful.

Road Scholar Colleagues

Our Friends in the Field

So much goes into creating memorable programs for our participants, and much credit goes to our many friends around the world who make our experiences possible. Hotels, airlines, ship operators, ground transportation companies, museums, performing arts organizations, restaurants, educational centers, park rangers and many more — all share our commitment to quality and our desire to make every program memorable for every participant, every time. We’re thankful for their efforts.

Our Colleagues

Nearly 400 strong, our Road Scholar colleagues are among the hardest-working, most dedicated people we know. They are also wonderful human beings. Every day they live out the core values of our organization: Be curious. Be dedicated. Be open. Be honest. Be kind. They bring our mission to life, and we’re beyond thankful for that.

In the end, we’re thankful for the opportunity to do work we love, making a difference for people we care about. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
