Christmas in Rome

After you enroll, we’ll ask you to provide or update your personal information and preferences, which includes your health information, lodging and meal preferences for your program.

A passport is required for this program. It must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.

All information we obtain regarding health precautions is from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta at 404-332-4559 or www.cdc.gov. Please remember that we are a travel company and are not authorized to prescribe any inoculations or medications. The CDC recommends that your Hepatitis A and B, COVID-19, and routine immunizations (chickenpox, DTP, flu, MMR, polio, shingles) be current. No inoculations are required to enter Italy. If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Meet the group at Hotel dei Mellini in Rome

Start of Trip:  2:00 p.m. hotel check-in; 4:30 p.m. Orientation; 6:00 p.m. Welcome Reception; 7:00 p.m. Welcome Dinner.

Getting to the site: There are a few options for reaching the program site hotel: Taxi: Taxi fare direct from the airport to the city center, where the hotel is located, is set by the city at €55. Max. 4 persons with bags to a taxi. Follow the signs in the terminal for ground transportation and the taxi icon. The taxi rank is orderly and supervised by the municipal transportation authority; the white cabs have the logo of the Municipality of Rome. Never accept a ride from anyone approaching you offering taxi service. Private Car: If you prefer a driver to meet you in the airport terminal with a sign with your name, you can contact the hotel for a private car and driver quote. Public Transportation (Leonardo Express): Purchase a bus or train ticket to Roma Termini, the central train station in Rome at the booths near the airport terminal exit. Trains depart the airport terminal every 30 minutes. The train line is called "Leonardo Express." Purchase tickets at the station attached to the airport terminal. The fare is €14 pp one way. The ride takes 32 minutes. From the train station, take a taxi to the hotel; see below. Public Transportation (Terravision Shuttle): A Terravision shuttle bus departs 1-2 times per hour between the airport and the central station of Rome. Bus tickets are €7 per ride or €12 round trip. The ride takes 55 minutes and makes three stops along the route. Take a taxi to the hotel; see below. When you arrive at Roma Termini by bus or train, take a taxi to the hotel—the fare is approximately €20. Go to the orderly taxi rank at the station's exit. The municipal transportation authority supervises the taxi rank; the white cabs have the logo of the Municipality of Rome. Never accept a ride from anyone approaching you offering taxi service.

Getting to the site by train or bus: Train service from European and Italian points connects to Roma Termini, the main station. A separate line connects the airport to Roma Termini.

Private Car: You can contact the hotel for a quote if you prefer a private car and driver. Public Transportation (Leonardo Express): From the hotel, take a taxi to the train station. Trains depart the airport terminal every 30 minutes. The train line is called "Leonardo Express." Purchase tickets at the station attached to the airport terminal. The fare is €14 pp one way. Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar are responsible for making their own transfer arrangements to the first site at the beginning of the program, as well as from the last site at the end of the program. The Information Packet Road Scholar sends in advance of the program includes details needed to make your transfer arrangements. If you wish to purchase airfare through Road Scholar, please call (800) 241-1404. Please note: In the unlikely event Road Scholar must make changes to the program's arrival or departure details, we will notify all participants as soon as possible. Participants who have purchased Road Scholar airfare are protected against airline change fees; however, anyone who has not purchased Road Scholar airfare will be required to make their own adjustments and may incur fees imposed by the airline.
