Italy is a member of the Schengen Agreement, a set of European and national standards governing different types of visas. As a result of this agreement, Americans may visit the country for up to 90 days without a visa, provided they have a US passport valid for at least six months from the planned date of departure from the EU.
A passport is required for this program. It must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.

If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Meet the group at NH Siena in Siena
Start of Trip: 3:00 p.m. hotel check-in; 6:00 p.m. Orientation followed by Welcome Dinner.
Getting to the site: To reach the program site from the airport on your own, you have a few options. At the information desk in the airport arrivals terminal, you can get the most updated train timetables. Please check Florence Airport website for more info: https://www.aeroporto.firenze.it/en/the-passengers/transport.html Option #1: 1st - Tramway: from Florence Airport (Terminal 2 - Vespucci) to Piazza dell’Unita in Florenze next to Santa Maria Novella train station. The tramway connects every 10 minutes and 7 days a week. The ride is about 20 minutes. Please visit www.gestramvia.it for more information. 2nd - Train: from Santa Maria Novella train station to Siena train station. The train connects every hour. The ride is about 1.5 hours. 3rd – Taxi or walk: take a taxi from Siena train station to the NH hotel in Piazza la Lizza 1 (6 minutes ride). It’s 20 minutes’ walk. Option #2: 1st - Tramway: from Florence Airport (Terminal 2 - Vespucci) to Piazza dell’Unita in Florenze next to Santa Maria Novella train station. The tramway connects every 10 minutes and 7 days a week. The ride is about 20 minutes. Please visit www.gestramvia.it for more information. 2nd: Bus 131R: from Firenze Autostazione busitalia station to Siena-Via Tozzi (the bus station is nearby the Florence Santa Maria Novella Railway Station, 3 minutes’ walk). Get off in Via Tozzi, Siena 3rd: Walk to NH Hotel, in Piazza la Lizza 1 (1 minute-walk). Options #3: Taxi: outside the airport arrival area, there will be taxis. The ride from Florence Airport to the NH hotel in Siena is about 1 hour. We cannot quote these services as they are public transportations. Your trip ends on: Friday, May 1, 2026 in Roma Fiumicino at Hotel Isola Sacra
End of Trip: 10:00 a.m. after breakfast; 11:00 a.m. hotel check-out.
Getting to the airport: The Isola Sacra hotel provides bus shuttle every 30 minutes and 7 days a week from the hotel to Rome-Fiumicino airport. Reservation of the service should be made at the front desk. The cost is about € 8 per person. The ride is about 10 minutes. Taxi: The ride from the Isola Sacra Hotel in Fiumicino to Rome-Fiumicino Airport is about 10 minutes. We cannot quote these services as they are public transportations.
Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar are eligible to take advantage of the designated group transfers: Arrivals: transfers from the airport to the start location will take place between 11am to 12pm and 2pm to 3pm on the first scheduled day of the program. Departures: transfers from the end location to the airport will take place between 6am and 8am on the last scheduled day of the program. The airport is approximately 10 minutes from the hotel, your flight must depart no earlier than 9am. Participants must notify Road Scholar of their flight arrangements no later than 30 days prior to departure by calling 1-800-454-5768. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 6:30pm ET. If your flight is delayed or cancelled causing the flight to be outside of the designated transfer times, please contact your Group Leader.
