Machu Picchu and Cuzco are high altitude locations. Some participants may experience symptoms of altitude sickness (feeling nauseous, becoming easily winded, and headaches, for example). If you start to feel sick, please notify your Group Leader. Your Group Leader will have oxygen available in high altitude areas. Sun protection measures are especially important in high altitude locations. Please bring sunscreen and protective clothing such as hats and long-sleeved shirts. We recommend that you consult your doctor or travel clinic and the CDC for recommendations on other vaccinations. If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Start of Trip: Lima hotel check-in, followed by Orientation.
Getting to the site: Arrival transfers are provided to participants who book their flights through Road Scholar and arrive on the program arrival date. Road Scholar will provide transfer options and rates, and may assist with booking transfers for participants who booked their air through Road Scholar Travel Services but are not arriving on the program start date. Please call (617) 457-5589 or email rsabroadprograms@roadscholar.org for more information. Lima International Airport : For independent travellers. After Immigrations and retrieving your luggage, you will find many stands where you can arrange on spot and pay for private transportation. You can pay with your credit card and the driver will be assigned right there. Average rate from the Airport to Miraflores district is around $30-$40 total.

Getting to the airport: Departure transfers are provided to participants who book their flights through Road Scholar and are departing on the program departure date. Road Scholar may assist with booking transfers for participants who booked their air through Road Scholar Travel Services but are not departing on the program departure date. Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar are responsible for making their own transfer arrangements to the first site at the beginning of the program, as well as from the last site at the end of the program. The Information Packet Road Scholar sends in advance of the program includes details needed to make your transfer arrangements. If you wish to purchase airfare through Road Scholar, please call (800) 241-1404. Please note: In the unlikely event Road Scholar must make changes to the program's arrival or departure details, we will notify all participants as soon as possible. Participants who have purchased Road Scholar airfare are protected against airline change fees; however, anyone who has not purchased Road Scholar airfare will be required to make their own adjustments and may incur fees imposed by the airline.
