After you enroll, we’ll ask you to provide or update your personal information and preferences, which includes your health information, lodging and meal preferences for your program.
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is NOT required to enter Kenya unless you are arriving from an area infected with Yellow Fever. Please check if you are coming or have visited any country within three months before coming to Kenya where Yellow fever is endemic, as in that case you will need to present Yellow fever certificate in order to enter Kenya. You can also advise with your physician if the vaccination is needed.
A passport is required for this program. It must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.
This information about travel documents pertains to participants holding U.S. passports. Non-U.S. citizens should refer to their country's requirements to ensure they have the necessary documentation for travel.
Kenya
Your passport must have 2 blank passport page(s) for entry/exit visas in this country.
A travel visa is required and it must be obtained in advance.
The cost of this visa is not included in the cost of your trip.

Please note: A single-entry Electronic Travel Authorization ETA for Kenya must be secured prior to program departure. Please allow several weeks of processing time. Although available, visa-on-arrival is not recommended. NOTE: The Kenyan ETA is only valid for three months after issue. Participants need to hold off on applying for this ETA until three months prior to their program start date. Contacts needed for this ETA are in the Program Notes Section of this booklet.
If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Meet the group at Eka Hotel in Nairobi
Start of Trip: Program begins with check-in at Nairobi hotel on Day 2 in the late evening. Meet your Study Leader on arrival or at breakfast on Day 3.
Getting to the site: Participants who are arriving prior to the program start date or whom have made their own flight arrangements are responsible for making their own way to the first program hotel. Taxis are available from NBO Nairobi Airport to transfer to program hotel . The transfer should take approximately 15 minutes and cost between 35 – 50 USD (3700 – 5200 KES). In the airport, please be sure to approach the official tables of taxi service companies and ignore solicitors in the terminal, as these people are often unlicensed and uninsured. Taxis will accept both local currency of Kenyan shillings (KES) as well as other global currencies (e.g. USD, Euros), and while tipping is customary for good service, it is not mandatory. If you are arriving in the evening, Road Scholar does not recommend you take a taxi. End of Trip: Program ends on Day 14 with late night transfers to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for overnight flights back to the United States. Day rooms are available to all participants on Day 14.
Getting to the airport: Taxis to the NBO Nairobi Airport are available from your program hotel. The transfer should take approximately 15 minutes and cost between 35 – 50 USD (3700 – 5200 KES). Please speak to hotel staff, ahead of time, to help you with these arrangements.
Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar are responsible for making their own transfer arrangements to the first site at the beginning of the program, as well as from the last site at the end of the program. The Information Packet Road Scholar sends in advance of the program includes details needed to make your transfer arrangements. If you wish to purchase airfare through Road Scholar, please call (800) 241-1404. Please note: In the unlikely event Road Scholar must make changes to the program's arrival or departure details, we will notify all participants as soon as possible. Participants who have purchased Road Scholar airfare are protected against airline change fees; however, anyone who has not purchased Road Scholar airfare will be required to make their own adjustments and may incur fees imposed by the airline.
