As a result, some program activities, schedules, accommodations, personnel, and other logistics occasionally change due to local conditions or circumstances. Hotel check-in from 4:00 p.m. Remember to bring your nametag (sent previously).
Afternoon:
Program Registration: 4:00-5:00 p.m. After you have your room assignment, join us at the Road Scholar table to meet with program staff, get any updated information, and confirm the time and location of the Orientation session. If you arrive late please locate your Group Leader and let them know you have arrived. Orientation: 5:00 p.m. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. We will learn from the Group Leader as well as local experts who will give lectures and lead field trips. Program-related travel and transfers will be via private motorcoach unless noted otherwise. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/current conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Evening:
At the hotel, we’ll end the day with a lecture from a local expert; possible topics include civil and human rights. Continue getting to know your fellow Road Scholars, settle in, and get a good night’s rest for the day ahead.

Morning:
Our day will begin with a lecture from a local expert on the history of women’s rights. Afterwards, we’ll embark on an exploration of key city sites dedicated to women’s history. Led by a licensed expert, this field trip will use storytelling to challenge traditional narratives, highlighting women’s struggles and contributions throughout history.
Lunch:
At a local women-owned restaurant.
Afternoon:
Our day will begin with a lecture from a local expert on the history of women’s rights. Afterwards, we’ll embark on an exploration of key city sites dedicated to women’s history. Led by a licensed expert, this field trip will use storytelling to challenge traditional narratives, highlighting women’s struggles and contributions throughout history.
Dinner:
This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to have what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.
Evening:
At leisure.
Activity Note
Walking up to 4 miles on paved surfaces and tiled floors. Getting on/off a motorcoach; over 1 hour riding time.
Breakfast:
At the hotel.
Morning:
We will start the day with a lecture by a local expert on civil rights. We will then board the motorcoach and head out for a field trip to U Street Corridor, historically known as “Black Broadway” due to its significant role in the development of African American arts and culture. The U Street Corridor was home to a thriving community of Black businesses, theaters, and music venues, especially during the early to mid-20th century.

At a Black-owned restaurant.
Afternoon:
Heading back out on the motorcoach, we’ll ride to the Anacostia Community Museum for an expert-led visit. The museum offers a unique and insightful experience into the rich history, culture, and contributions of African American communities in the region. The museum focuses on social issues, history, and the cultural diversity of Anacostia and the greater D.C. area. Next, we’ll board the motorcoach and head to a local urban farm for a hands-on volunteer experience.

Morning:
We will begin our day with a discussion led by members of the Rainbow History community. Following the discussion, we will take an expert-led walk through neighborhoods that have some significance in LGBTQIA+ history. These locations may include the Dupont Circle, U Street, and Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
Lunch:
At a local LGBTQIA+-owned restaurant.
Afternoon:
We will continue our exploration of the Gay Pride movement in D.C. with another field trip, led by a local expert.
Dinner:
At a local LGBTQIA+-owned restaurant.
Evening:
At the hotel, we will hear from an expert on local LGBTQIA+ culture.
Activity Note

Breakfast:

Morning:
We will start the day with a lecture from a local expert. Possible topics include food insecurity and climate change.
Lunch:
At the hotel.
Afternoon:
We will board the motorcoach and head out for a hands-on volunteer experience at a local D.C. kitchen. Volunteer activities could include packing food boxes for the local community or cleaning vegetables and fruits for the food boxes.
Dinner:
At a local restaurant. Share favorite experiences and enjoy camaraderie with new Road Scholar friends during our farewell dinner.
Evening:
At leisure. Prepare for check-out and departure in the morning.

Morning:
We will hear closing remarks from our Group Leader. This concludes our program. If you are returning home, safe travels. If you are staying on independently, have a wonderful time. If you are transferring to another Road Scholar program, detailed instructions are included in your Information Packet for that program.
