Calling all adventurers! Are you the happiest hiker? Zippiest zip-liner? One wonderful wildlife whisperer? If you answered “Yes,” then we’ve found the perfect place for you … Costa Rica! Alongside your grandchild, step into the wild to discover misty cloud-forests unlike anything you’ve seen before. Stand in awe of beautiful waterfalls and look for white-faced monkeys as you float down the Rio Corobicí. Explore amazing landscapes from high up on hanging bridges or from a zip line. Jump right into “nature’s playground” as you search for awesome animals, hike to volcanic hot springs and sail past mangrove forests as you both monkey around in Costa Rica.
Best of all, you'll...
  • Trek through the cloud forest and cross hanging bridges above the forest canopy in Monteverde.
  • Search for wildlife during a scenic boat ride through the mangroves of Cipanci Wildlife Refuge.
  • Have a blast exploring thermal mud pools, fumaroles and other surprising volcanic features at Rincon de La Vieja National Park.

Ivan Castillo
Ivan Castillo — a Costa Rican naturalist and avid birder — trained as a naturalist at the Organization for Tropical Studies La Selva Biological Research Station. He has a degree in sustainable tourism management from Costa Rica’s state university system. While growing up in the lowland rainforests of Sarapiqui, Costa Rica, Ivan's passion for nature developed early. Neotropical fauna and flora are what he loves and knows best. He has spent more than a decade leading ecotourism travelers and educating them on the region’s ecosystems.

Profile Image of Reimer Palma
Reimer Palma
Reimer Palma is a self-proclaimed “nature guy.” He fondly recalls, at an early age, accompanying his father on walks through the rainforest to go fishing or for work. Those quiet outdoor explorations further fueled his appreciation for and an awareness of his natural surroundings. When Reimer attended a course in ecotourism at his high school, he became intrigued with the idea of becoming a naturalist guide. In 2009, he began attending natural history courses at La Selva Biological Field Station in preparation for his certification. As a naturalist leader, Reimer enjoys introducing visitors to many of Costa Rica’s beautiful protected areas; although the lush Caribbean lowlands, where he grew up, still hold the number one spot in his heart. When Reimer isn’t leading groups or enjoying time with his family, you will most likely find him hitting his college books in pursuit of his bachelor’s degree in biology.
Profile Image of Stiven Matute
Stiven Matute
Stiven Matute is a certified Costa Rican naturalist expedition leader who grew up in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. His interest in the natural sciences was piqued during a class trip to La Selva Biological Station with his elementary school. He still remembers the thrill of using binoculars for the first time. After high school, he went on to earn his naturalist credentials. Stiven has participated in mammal and herpetology research and even got to use his ziplining and canyoning skills while setting up camera traps.
Profile Image of Vinicio Viquez
Vinicio Viquez
Vinicio “Vinny” Víquez grew up in Heredia province in Costa Rica’s Central Valley. He studied biology at university, and began working as a naturalist in the 1990s. He considers himself an ambassador of Costa Rica. Each visitor presents an opportunity – not just to share favorite birds and amphibians – but also to plant a seed to spread appreciation of his diverse homeland. Vinny and his family live on a small coffee plantation in Costa Rica’s southern Pacific highlands.
