With incredible natural wonders and diverse species, there’s no end to what you can discover in Costa Rica. Join us on an inspiring adventure in the heart of Costa Rica that offers you the unique opportunity to discover its landscapes and inhabitants according to your interests and pace. This is your chance to explore San José and Sarapiqui, keep an eye out for colorful macaws or thrill as you raft down rivers — the choice is yours! Whether you love natural history or hope to add to your birding life list, there’s sure to be great learning and camaraderie in Costa Rica.
Activity Level
Choose Your Pace
Each program theme (selected at time of enrollment) has a different activity level. In general, walking up to two hours a day over uneven terrain, some extended bus travel with breaks in hot and humid conditions. Opportunities for white-water rafting or zip lining depending on your group.
Participants will split into groups based on their chosen program theme (selected at time of enrollment):

Theme 2: Natural History Focus/Easy Going
Theme 3: Birding/Outdoor: Spirited
Theme 4: Outdoor Adventure/Outdoor: Spirited

- Choose your area of study and activity comfort level as you learn about the unique features of the rainforest.
- Get a “taste” of Costa Rica as you sample fresh pineapple, enjoy a lesson on making artisanal chocolate and learn about the cultivation of hearts of palm.
- Enjoy a boat ride or rafting expedition along the Sarapiqui River, and join naturalists for opportunities to observe wildlife — including Costa Rica’s many bird species.
